Toyota apologizes to European consumers

Toyota Motor Corporation continued its worldwide damage-control campaign with an apology issued by Vice Chairman Kazuo Okamoto to the automaker's customers in Europe for its safety issues and the concerns that they have caused. Okamoto's apology Monday, read to journalists on the eve of press days at the Geneva Auto Show where Toyota will unveil its hybrid Auris HSD compact and the Lexus CT 200h, a compact hybrid hatchback - follows public apologies by Toyota President Akio Toyoda in China and the United States.  ... Indonesia’s Inflation Rate Climbs to Nine-Month High

Indonesia’s inflation accelerated to the fastest pace in nine months amid rising commodity and food prices, putting pressure on the central bank to raise interest rates this year. UN calls on countries to boost emission pledges

Countries will have to significantly increase their pledges to cut greenhouse gas emissions if there is any hope of preventing the catastrophic effects of climate change, according to a U.N. study released Tuesday. Sixty nations - including China, the United Statesand the 27-member European Union - met a Jan. 31 deadline to submit pledges to the U.N. for reducing the heat-trapping gases as part of a voluntary plan to roll back emissions.  ... Court overturns KPPU`s ruling on Carrefour

The South Jakarta District Court has overturned a Business Competition Supervisory Commission (KPPU) decision declaring PT Carrefour Indonesia guilty of a monopolistic act and unhealthy competition by acquiring PT Alfa Retailindo (minimarket chain) in 2008. "Our ruling has been revoked by the South Jakarta District Court. By 2012, no more bird flu in S Kalimantan

The Indonesian province of South Kalimantan remained prone to the attacks of bird flu but it would be free from the deadly virus by 2012. "We have projected that South Kalimantan will be free from bird flu by 2012," Head of the province`s veterinary office Serafina Ariani said here Wednesday.
