  • How To Train Your Dragon (2010)  By : Movie
This is a wonderful motion picture. Perhaps Dreamworks, in their frantic need to push the movie to every demographic, has lost sight of the film itself, but abysmal marketing efforts aside, "How to Train Your Dragon" is a rousing success; a soaring, endearing adventure feature that plays smart and fierce.
  • Alice In Wonderland (2010)  By : Movie
"You're mad, bonkers... but I'll tell you a secret – all the best people are." This line early on in Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland expresses perfectly what seems to be the director's guiding philosophy. The only problem is that his Hollywood paymasters aren't quite as subversive as he is. The result here is a wildly inventive film straitjacketed in conventional narrative form.

  • Alvin and the Chipmunks 2 (2009)  By : Movie
Alvin and the Chipmunks, the semi-CGI saga about a trio of walking, talking, barbershop wailing rodents who find fame and fortune was - I'm amazed to say - the 150th most successful film of all time (it took $360m at the box office). The follow-up, then, must be eagerly awaited by fans and studio alike - so it's a shame much of it will be lost on humans.
  • Planet 51 (2009)  By : Movie
I hope that if alien cultures are monitoring our entertainment, they take a pass on the film Planet 51. It may reverse the human/alien traditional roles by having the human astronaut be the fish out of water on an alien planet, but xenophobia stopped being a funny or useful plot device by the mid-'80s. Any mildly cognizant alien intelligences would take one look at this movie and decide to check back on the human race in another hundred years.
  • Astro Boy (2009)  By : Movie
Imagine, if you will, the story of Pinocchio in reverse: Instead of a puppet turning into a human boy, the opposite occurs. Now, in place of the puppet substitute a humanoid robot with flight capabilities and advanced weaponry, and you get Summit Entertainment's animated sci-fi flick, Astro Boy.

  • G Force (2009)  By : Movie
"G-Force" is a pleasant, inoffensive 3-D animated farce about a team of superspy guinea pigs who do battle with a mad billionaire who wants to conquer the earth by programming all the home appliances made by his corporation to follow his instructions. It will possibly be enjoyed by children of all ages.

  • Ice Age 3 (2009)  By : Movie
As titles go, 'Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs' should win some kind of oxymoron prize -- it’s like calling your movie 'Waterloo: The Rise of Napoleon', or 'Enron: Capitalism’s Salad Days'. School trips to Carlos Saldanha’s film aren’t recommended, or teachers will spend the next week trying to explain that dinosaurs didn’t live in a vast hothouse under the glaciers, and woolly mammoths called Manny probably weren’t on chummy terms with sabre-toothed tigers called Diego.
  • Monsters Vs Aliens (2009)  By : Movie
The MPAA has rated Monsters vs. Aliens PG for sci-fi action, some crude humor and mild language. On the morning of her wedding, everything seems perfect in Susan Murphy's (voice by Reese Witherspoon) life. Perfect that is until a meteorite from outer space lands on top of her.
  • Madagascar 2 (2008)  By : Movie
A prima donna lion named Alex (Ben Stiller), Marty the zebra (Chris Rock), Melman, a hypochondriac giraffe (David Schwimmer) and Gloria the hippo (Jada Pinkett Smith), succeeded in relocating from New York City Zoo to the titular island paradise along with a crew of demented military minded penguins.
  • Bolt (2008)  By : Movie
This 3-D animated tale about a canine superhero is clever and action-packed -- but is it too culturally savvy for its own good?
  • Space Chimps (2008)  By : Movie
"Space Chimps" is delightful from beginning to end: A goofy space opera that sends three U.S. chimptronauts rocketing to a galaxy, as they say, far, far away. Although it's aimed at a younger market and isn't in the same science-fiction league as "WALL*E," it's successful at what it wants to do:
  • Kung Fu Panda (2008)  By : Movie
"Kung Fu Panda" is a story that almost tells itself in its title. It is so hard to imagine a big, fuzzy panda performing martial-arts encounters that you intuit (and you will be right) that the panda stars in an against-all-odds formula, which dooms him to succeed. For the panda's target audience, children and younger teens, that will be just fine, and the film presents his adventures in wonderfully drawn Cinemascope animation. (It will also be showing in some IMAX venues.)
